About Rev. Sky Starr

Rev. Sky Starr has been a resident of Jane/Finch for forty-three (43) years where she multi-functions as a minister, therapist, grief, and trauma specialist and community advocate.

The Reverend is a marriage and family therapist, grief and trauma specialist, educator, author, consultant, researcher and an avid stakeholder in Jane and Finch community, with over 33 years of grief/trauma experience. She is the founder and Executive Director of Out Of Bounds: Grief support. As a grief and trauma specialist, the Reverend holds a master’s degree in psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in religious studies and community affairs from Tyndale University and Seminary.

A first responder to crisis, Rev. Sky provides creative, compassionate care for those who are traumatized by violence, working with mothers who lost a child to gun violence, families, schools and community organizations from a unique trans-cultural perspective.

Her work and services include group facilitation, grief & trauma-focused training, workshops, restorative justice mediation, therapeutic intervention, mentorship, and emotional intelligence training to youth, schools and the wider community. As a devoted educator Rev. Sky has done many research projects in conjunction with Ryerson University and Women’s College Hospital and has written books and articles on dealing with grief, loss, and trauma.

She has been recognized with the following awards:
