As people and communities, we confront a time in which lives are deeply affected and families face tremendous life-altering challenges. We aim to meet these painful, traumatic changes with an outlook that encompasses age-old researched remedies and customized strategies, which are informed by lessons learned during ongoing crises.

Hands-On Training

You’ll gain an invaluable understanding of the grief process, grief recovery principles and strategies to assist yourself and others through interaction. You will be guided to share your own loss to help and have the personal experience to become comfortable to assist others.

Grief Integration

You will be well on your way to becoming an expert on your personal grief journey. The training will be specifically focused on helping yourself and others people deal with loss. Grief, trauma and their effects will be the primary topic. It won’t be mixed up with other topics.

Certificate on Completion:

This in-depth certification training gives you the language, tools, and personal knowledge you’ll need to gain your own healing and empowerment in order to start helping people immediately. You will be a Certified Grief Facilitator with the format and guidelines to run groups and respond to crisis.

Objectives:

  • To equip volunteers and anyone interested in supporting, encouraging and assisting residents during crisis
  • To educate and prepare residents (youth, mothers, frontline works, and professions) to adequately respond to crisis, with a focus on gun and other violent situations.
  • To facilitate/guide interactive discussions and provide an opportunity for trainees to share their traumatic grief journey together, and become proficient through engaging in attentive listening.

 

What You Will Learn

After completing our training, trainees will:

  • Become more familiar with the grieving process.
  • Enhance your ability to relate effectively to a grieving person or family.
  • Develop new skills to cope with personal feelings related to death, grief, loss, and trauma.
  • Receive resource materials and experience to facilitate continued learning.
  • Fine-tune your skills and be able to help others on their journey.
  • Expand your knowledge of the current developments in this discipline.
  • Heighten your awareness of resources in the areas of gun violence trauma and other grief-related topics.

Introductory Level
First level training. No experience necessary.

Intermediary Level
Prerequisite: must have done an introductory level training. Second level training. Equivalent to a college education. The certificate allows you to plan and implement groups.

Advanced Level
Equivalent to university education. Completion of the advanced level equips you to develop and implement training sessions and provide professional training to others.

For each training session we provide:

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge in responding to community crisis and effectively support those who need assistance during and post-crisis situations.
  • Continuity as we transform the way we operate to improve our ability to provide competent, culturally responsive, compassionate, non-denominational support to those affected by grief, loss, and trauma.
  • Consistency in meeting the challenges of our field and excelling through data collection and research findings.
  • Knowledge exchange, as we utilize the findings through a PAR (Participatory Action Research) process while working towards empowering the community and its representatives through reflection, data collection, and informed service delivery.
